The Fairmont Cardinals were defeated in the Class 3AAA state quarterfinal by the Jordan Hubmen 20-13 last Saturday at Dan Patch Stadium in Savage. The Hubmen scored two first quarter touchdowns, quarterback Jonathan Draheim tossed an 18 yard pass to Marlon Wiley and a 40-yarder to Kreuser, for a 14-0 halftime lead. The Cards had a chance to score on a double pass that was picked off at the two yard line and just before the half when a pass was intercepted in the end zone. Fairmont quarterback Nate Kallenbach(15-25-1-140)  hit Wyatt Quiring(5-57) for a 32 yard touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7 with 7:36 to go in the third. Kallenbach, who injured is ankle and would not return to the game, was replaced by Garrett Myren. Myren(6-10-0-21) engineered a drive ending with a six-yard touchdown pass to Dustin Schultz(5-35) with 35 seconds to go in the third quarter. The two point conversion attempt failed and the Hubmen lead 14-13 after three quarters of play. The Cards got the ball back a couple of times in the fourth quarter with the help of leading tacklers Collin Steuber, Zac Ringnell and Jordan Wolters but drives were halted by the Hubmen. Draheim hit Kreuser with a 17-yard pass with ten minutes to go in the game to give Jordan a 20-13 lead after the blocked point after attempt. A couple more Card possessions stalled and the Hubmen ran out the clock to end the game. The Cards ended their season with a 9-2 record.
