The VFW baseball program is geared for those kids in Fairmont that have a
desire to play school ball the following year at the varsity level. This is treated as
a feeder to the high school team. eligible to play for Fairmont Post #1222 a player
cannot turn 17 before June 1, 2010. The team has an official roster of which must be
limited to twenty players for the playoffs. These twenty players will be determined
by the coaching staff based on their past performances. The rules for VFW baseball
follow along with the MSHSL rules. There will be a $110 registration fee for
participating on the VFW team. This fee will cover the cost of the equipment that
we use and the cost of field maintenance, umpires, and coaching. Each kid has the
responsibility of umping two games at the Junior League level for which they will be
reimbursed $15/game. If they find this enjoyable and are willing to do more than
they can make quite a bit of money throughout the summer. There will be tournament
opportunities for those kids that excel at this job, as well. So a player will have the
opportunity to offset the registration expense through umping and at the same time
giving a little back to the program with their hard work. If this fee presents a hardship
for a family there are scholarships available from the “Angels of Baseball” program.
