MARTINS STATE TOURNAMENT PHOTO SLIDE SHOW



The Fairmont Martins Amateur Baseball team finished second at the State Class C Tournament in St. Cloud this past weekend. In the Championship Game
Maple Lake defeated Fairmont 6-4 on Labor Day.  Shaun McGuire, allowed three runs - two earned - on four hits, struck out two and walked two in seven
 innings. Aaron Siefken, McGuire and  Jon Ellis had two hits each. The Martins State Tournament run started August 26 with McGuire pitching a complete game allowing four hits to lead the Martins to a 6-0 win over New Munich. The Martins then eked out a 2-0 win over Bird Island behind a complete game shutout by
Shaun McGuire who gave up four hits with nine Ks and one walk, Saturday, September 1.  On Sunday, the Martins won two games, defeating Avon 3-1, with
Aaron Siefken throwing a five-hit complete-game. Adam Schmidt hit a three-run home run and Dustin Sobolik's added a solo homer for a comeback win over
Green Isle 9-7 to advance Fairmont to the championship game. The Martins, who finished 33-7, made their 15th appearance in the State tournament had their
best finish since the 1959 team defeated Bloomington. McGuire, Ellis, Ian Bents and Adam Schmidt made the All-Tournament Team. Team Members include:
