Saturday, July 19       League Tournament – Jackson

The Junior League program is geared for all kids in Fairmont to continue to learn and develop the fundamental skills of baseball. Teams will be set up so that they are equal in talent to each other. All kids will be coached on the skills for each position, however, not all kids will get to play every position during the games.  The rules for Junior League baseball state that; all kids bat in the batting order and must play at least two innings of defense for each game.

Practices will be held from 9:30-11:30am every Monday and Wednesday during the regular season except for the last week when practices will be held in the afternoon from 1:00-3:00pm because of the start of summer school. Practices will be run by Jerry Brooks, Todd Sukalski, and other volunteers. This works best for the kids, maintaining consistency in the skills that are being taught. Parents that volunteer to help coach one of the teams will be in charge of managing the team for the games. Parents should feel free to attend these practices at any time.

The schedule, including location and opponents, will be determined later in mid-May. The dates have been set for the season already. Draft day will be held the last week of April and the kids will be notified on the website. The end of the season tournament will be held in Jackson this year at the “River Fields” complex on July 18th & 19th. When we host games during the regular season we play at the Winnebago diamonds. All game times are scheduled at 6:30pm. There may be slight changes to start times due to field availability for some towns. With the lights we may play some games at 8:00pm. When we play out of town, parents will need to volunteer to drive players to the game site. All parents do not have to drive to every game. We can take turns if you can’t make it to a certain game. Communication is the key to your kids enjoying this experience.

There will be a $60 registration fee for participating on the league teams. This fee will cover the cost of the equipment that we use and the cost of our team shirts and hats, which the kids will get to keep. If this fee presents a hardship for a family there are scholarships available from the “Angels of Baseball” program. Contact any Board member if you would like to be a part of this program. Any player picked up off the reserve roster does not pay any fee. If you have comments or suggestions on how to improve what we are doing we encourage you to get involved in your Fairmont Baseball Association.

Thank you,

Jerry Brooks
